Yes. Winter is Sapanca's quietest season. The summer crowds are gone, mist settles over the forest and some years it snows. A bungalow with a warm private pool or a jacuzzi, an hour and a half from Istanbul, makes for a real winter escape. Here are the answers our guests ask us most often.
What is Sapanca like in winter?
Around Lake Sapanca, winters are usually mild and rainy, with morning mist on the wooded hills. Snow does not fall every year, and when it does it often stays only a few days. For reliable snow, go up to Kartepe, the ski resort nearby.
So a winter trip here is about two things: snow by day, a warm bungalow by night.
Is it cold in the bungalows?
Every bungalow at Natural Life has air conditioning. Superior and Deluxe bungalows have private hot pools, and Standard and Deluxe bungalows have jacuzzis. Stepping into warm water on a cold evening, with steam rising into the trees, is our guests' favourite winter moment. Ask us about bungalows with a fireplace when you book.

Our suggestion: a short walk in Maşukiye in the morning, snow at Kartepe at noon, the hot pool in the late afternoon.
Before you drive to Kartepe
- Winter tyres or chains: On snowy days chains may be required on the road to Kartepe. Check the highway and ski resort announcements before you set off.
- Leave early: At weekends, parking and lift queues grow towards noon.
- Dress in layers: Even when Sapanca is mild, the top of Kartepe is much colder.
Getting here from Istanbul
Sapanca is about an hour and a half from Istanbul by car, depending on traffic. If you are coming by train or coach, message us before you travel and we will suggest the easiest connection and send directions.
Weekdays or weekends?
